ShotKeep Privacy Policy
ShotKeep is a local-first screenshot tool. Captures, edits, and exports stay on your device. ShotKeep does not operate a backend that receives your screenshots or browsing content.
What ShotKeep does
ShotKeep captures the visible area of the active browser tab, stores images in your browser (IndexedDB), lets you redact, crop, spotlight, loupe, and watermark those images, and can download images or ZIP archives through Chrome’s download system.
Data we collect
We do not collect personal data.
- No accounts, analytics, advertising IDs, or crash telemetry.
- No screenshots, page HTML, cookies, or credentials are uploaded to us.
- No remote code is fetched or executed by the extension.
Data stored on your device
- Screenshots and thumbnails in IndexedDB on your computer.
- Settings such as capture interval, image format, and continuous-capture state in Chrome local storage.
- Optional watermark logo images you choose to import, stored locally with your gallery workflow.
You can delete captures from the gallery or remove the extension to clear local extension data (subject to Chrome’s uninstall behavior).
Permissions
ShotKeep requests permissions only to provide capture and export features:
- Access to websites / host access — required so keyboard shortcuts can capture the current tab without opening the popup first. ShotKeep does not scrape or send page content to a server.
- Tabs / activeTab — identify the active tab and capture its visible area.
- Storage / unlimitedStorage — save settings and allow a large local gallery.
- Downloads — export PNG/JPEG files and ZIP archives you request.
- Notifications — optional local feedback when a capture succeeds.
- Offscreen / commands — keep continuous-capture timers reliable and bind keyboard shortcuts.
Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share user data with third parties because we do not receive your data. If you export files, those files leave the extension only through downloads you initiate on your own device.
Children
ShotKeep is a productivity tool and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the effective date on this page. Material changes that affect privacy practices will be reflected in the Chrome Web Store listing as required.
